Kalaburagi: Distressed over the lack of rainfall, farmers and villagers in Jambaga (B) village of Kalaburagi taluk on Saturday performed a ceremonial wedding for frogs and offered special prayers, hoping for good rain. .The event took place at the village’s Mahalakshmi Temple, where villagers gathered to solemnise the marriage of two frogs by following traditional rituals similar to a human wedding. The rituals observed before the wedding included applying turmeric and oil to the frogs, and singing auspicious songs.The wedding was later solemnised with the tying of the mangalsutra and the exchange of garlands. After the ceremony, a traditional meal was arranged for the villagers.

Special prayers and rituals were offered in the hope of good rainfall, bountiful crops for farmers, and peace and prosperity in the village. Hundreds of villagers, including elders, women and youth, participated.Two months have passed since the onset of the monsoon season.Villagers said there was a tradition of performing the ritual when rains were delayed in the village, and a frog wedding was conducted this time as well, driven by the same belief.Speaking to TOI, Jambaga villager Sharanappa Koli said this ritual (frog wedding) was followed by their ancestors. “We remember our participation in those days. But now we are doing the same this year to pray for the rain,” he added.
