Vijayapura: With average inflow into the Almatti dam rising to 73,162 cusecs on Friday morning, the reservoir level reached just about one metre below its maximum capacity.Sources in the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited (KBJNL) said water was being released at 42,500 cusecs and the outflow was expected to be increased to 67,500 cusecs. “Considering the rainfall in the upper catchment areas and upstream discharges from Maharashtra and Karnataka, inflow into the Almatti dam is likely to rise further. We have requested the authorities concerned to alert people living downstream,” they said.The current reservoir level stood at 518.5 metres against its maximum level of 519.6 metres. The dam currently holds 106.3 tmcft of water against its full storage capacity of 123 tmcft.Nidagundi tahsildar AD Amaracadagi said alert notices had been issued in villages, advising residents not to venture into rivers and to take precautions to protect livestock.Meanwhile, inflow into the Narayanpur dam has also increased to 43,005 cusecs. The reservoir already holds 27.5 tmcft of water, which is about 83% of its storage capacity.
