Times News NetworkKanpur: City residents experienced uncomfortable and humid weather on Friday as bright sunshine alternated with dense cloud cover, while the absence of rainfall during the day pushed the mercury up by nearly 2°C.According to the weather observatory, the city’s maximum temperature settled at 34°C, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 25.8°C. High humidity further aggravated the discomfort, with the maximum relative humidity touching 91 per cent, making conditions extremely muggy despite moderate winds.South-easterly winds blowing at speeds ranging from 9.9 kmph to 15.8 kmph provided some relief from the oppressive heat. However, the heat index, which reflects the combined effect of temperature and humidity on the human body, hovered between 39°C and 40°C, making it feel significantly hotter than the actual air temperature.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across all districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours. For Kanpur Nagar, the IMD has predicted a maximum temperature of 33°C and a minimum of 26°C. The sky is expected to remain generally cloudy, with intermittent spells of scattered thunderstorms likely to occur during the day.SN Sunil Pandey, weather expert at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), said that increasing atmospheric moisture and the development of fresh weather systems are expected to influence the region’s weather over the next two days.He said the Kanpur division is likely to witness cloudy skies from July 25 to July 26, with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds. Isolated areas may also experience gusty winds and brief spells of drizzle. Pandey added that although overcast conditions are expected to prevail, short intervals of sunshine may also occur.The anticipated rainfall is expected to provide relief from the prevailing sultry weather, although high humidity is likely to persist until widespread showers reduce moisture levels in the atmosphere. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning activity.
