Modern knee replacement surgeries are about positioning the implant according to a patient’s individual anatomy rather than relying on conventional mechanical alignment, experts at Parvathy Hospital said.
Vetri Kumar, Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the hospital, said they have been performing total knee replacement procedures using the Evolution Medial-Pivot Knee System and a kinematic alignment approach. The implant is designed to preserve medial stability while allowing physiological rotational movement, with the aim of replicating the biomechanics of a healthy knee.
“Modern knee replacement is about more than relieving pain. Every knee is unique, and respecting individual anatomy can help achieve more natural and stable outcomes,” he added. Personalised arthroplasty and medial-pivot implant designs are increasingly being adopted to improve joint function, range of motion, and long-term outcomes in patients with osteoarthritis.
