One such post from Bengaluru resident Shruti has gone viral after she opened up about how much she spends each month living in a 1BHK apartment in HSR Layout. She broke down her costs in detail and explained how most of her salary goes into just managing rent and daily needs.
She Shares How Much She Pays Just To Live In Her Flat
In a video on Instagram, Shruti answered questions she often gets about her living situation. “I am Shruti and ever since my one-room story blew up, I get DMs 24/7 with the same two questions: what is my rent and where do I stay?” she said in the clip.
She then revealed her rent clearly, saying, “I stay in HSR and my rent is Rs 36,000. Yes, that’s the amount just to exist in the flat.” She also shared that this does not include other monthly costs that keep adding up.
She Breaks Down Her Monthly Spending In Detail
In her caption, she listed how her expenses are divided each month. Rent alone is Rs 36,000, while rented appliances cost around Rs 5,000. She spends about Rs 4,000 on electricity and househelp. Food and groceries come to nearly Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 since she mostly cooks at home.
She also spends around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 on travel. Fitness-related costs like gym, Pilates, and classes add up to about Rs 5,000. She mentioned extra spending on coffee, eating out, and small cravings, though she said those costs change every month. On shopping, she added, “We don’t discuss these.”

Shruti summed up her experience of living independently in the city, writing, “Adulting in Bangalore is fun. My bank account may disagree.”
