Belagavi: Urban development minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah has assured government support to secure land and facilitate construction of a hostel for meritorious students from economically weaker sections of the Kuruba community in Belagavi district.He gave the assurance after being felicitated by community leaders during a visit to the office of Gadde Developers and Builders at Bhadkal Galli on Tuesday. The minister said a suitable site had been identified at Anjaneya Nagar and promised steps to obtain land approval and complete departmental formalities. The hostel, he said, would help deserving students pursue higher education without financial hardship.He suggested including commercial establishments in the proposed complex to generate revenue for its maintenance and operations. He also assured the gathering that technical and administrative hurdles would be addressed and all possible assistance extended for the project. Urging greater unity among Kuruba community members, the minister called on them to strengthen their organisation and promote education and social development.Community leaders requested him to direct officials to resolve pending technical issues and support construction of a modern hostel for poor, talented students from across the district. Karnataka Kurubara Sangha working president Basavaraj Basaligundi, Vinayak Bannatti and HS Nasalapure, among others, attended the programme.
