An Indian woman has entered the Guinness World Records for having the longest hair among living women, measuring an incredible 271.50 cm after years of dedicated care.

An Indian woman has set a new Guinness World Record for having the longest hair in the world among living women. Her hair measures an impressive 271.50 cm (8 ft 10 in).
Guinness World Records shared the achievement on X, introducing Renu Dhariyal from Uttarakhand as the new record holder. Along with celebrating the milestone, Renu also revealed how she has cared for her hair over the years.
Guinness Recognises Her Record
Guinness World Records wrote, “Renu Dhariyal (India) has the longest hair in the world! She has claimed the record for longest hair on a living person (female). Her stunning raven tresses measure an unbelievable 271.50 cm (8 ft 10 in) long.”
Renu’s hair was officially measured and verified in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, in April. She broke the previous record held by Ukraine’s Aliia Nasyrova, whose hair measured 257.33 cm (8 ft 5.3 in).
According to Guinness, Renu has been growing her hair continuously since 2015. Explaining what inspired her, she said, “I have been growing my hair continuously since 2015. In Indian culture, long hair is considered a symbol of extreme beauty and tradition, which is what inspired me to grow it so long.”
She added, “I have never cut my hair since 2015.”
Photos shared by Guinness show her hair flowing across the floor, hanging over the edge of a bed and wrapped around her while she sits. To keep it manageable, she often ties it into a long braid.
She Shares Her Hair Care Routine
Renu, who is also a content creator and YouTuber, regularly shares beauty tips with her followers. She admitted that looking after hair of this length takes a lot of time and patience. “It takes a lot of patience to maintain long hair. I spend hours washing and detangling my hair,” she said.
Sharing her hair care routine, Renu added, “My secret is completely natural. I stay away from chemical products and also share the secrets of chemical-free homemade hair oils and homemade shampoos I make on my YouTube channel.”
She also said her hair often attracts attention wherever she goes. “With such long hair, whenever I step out or come on social media, people are surprised and I get a lot of appreciation and attention.”
Renu hopes her achievement will bring recognition to her community and inspire others. “I want to give a message to the world that with determination, consistency and connecting with your natural beauty and culture, you can achieve any big milestone.”
