A 21-year-old woman quit her old job in hopes of better pay, bigger clients and greater professional exposure. But a few weeks later, she got to know the reality. She shared her ordeal on social media, saying the workplace pressure has become overwhelming and she cannot help but think of quitting her new job.
In a Reddit post titled “Only 23 days into my new job and I already want to quit,” she explained that she joined the company with high hopes but found herself under intense scrutiny within just three weeks.
“I switched jobs for better pay, bigger clients, and exposure. Within just 2-3 weeks, a Brand Manager told the management they weren’t confident in me and didn’t want me handling their project because they thought I’d ruin it. Now my manager says I need to ‘prove myself,’” she wrote. “I’m not afraid of hard work, but the pressure is unreal for someone who’s barely been here three weeks.”
She shared that her situation has become more difficult because of the daily commute, where she spends more than two hours travelling one way to work and has barely any time left for herself. She also claimed that she is expected to work on weekends, adding to the pressure she is already going through.
Things became more concerning for her after she searched for reviews of the company. She said, “To make matters worse, I later checked their Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, and social media pages, and they’re full of complaints from creators waiting to be paid and the ex-employees hating the work-life balance and toxicity here.”
“I Dread Going To Work”
Despite all the concerns, the young woman said she cannot simply resign because she is the highest earner in her family of four. “Although my parents are asking me to resign because they can see how badly it’s affecting me. I’ve already started applying elsewhere and have an interview in 3 days. I wake up every morning with anxiety, chest pain, and no appetite because I dread going to work,” she explained.
Internet Has Mixed Reactions
In no time, people began reacting to her dilemma, with people sharing a range of suggestions. While some asked her to stay put, others said to look for better opportunities and switch immediately.
“Job market is in the doldrums at the moment. Stay. Hang in there. Simultaneously keep looking. As for the negative feedback from the bosses and colleagues, do not take it to your heart. Remember God has given us two ears to listen more. And only one mouth to talk less. Listen more. Talk less. This too shall pass. All the best. Stay strong,” wrote a user.
Another said, “Just quit! And look for another opportunity. If in the first 23 days you have been told that the management has no confidence in you. Then it’s very rare that things will turn out to be better overnight.”
An individual commented, “Bro, it’s just been 23 days; jaldi se dusra job dhundo and switch.”
Someone else pointed out, “The biggest red flag isn’t the brand manager. It’s the fact that your body is already telling you this isn’t sustainable. Keep interviewing and leave as soon as you have something better.”
