Prayagraj: The UP Board is preparing to double the limit on the number of students from other boards or states who can be admitted directly to Classes 10 and 12 in its affiliated schools. A proposal recommending an increase from the existing cap of 10 students per school has been sent to state govt.The proposal follows a workshop organised at the UP Board headquarters on the directions of state govt, where principals of govt, aided and private schools affiliated with the board were invited to share their feedback on the existing admission provision.Under a govt order issued on July 20, 2010, UP Board schools can directly admit a maximum of 10 students from other boards or states to Classes 10 and 12, provided they meet the prescribed minimum eligibility criteria. During the workshop, several principals recommended that the limit be increased, arguing that the existing cap is inadequate to meet the needs of families relocating to Prayagraj and other parts of the state.Principals pointed out that many students whose parents are transferred from other cities or states are studying under CBSE or CISCE. However, the limited number of CBSE and CISCE-affiliated schools in Prayagraj means that not all such students are able to secure admission in their respective boards after relocation. As a result, many eventually seek admission to UP Board schools.Increasing the limit would allow more such students to continue their education without disruption and would also reinforce the message that UP Board schools are open to students from other boards.Unlike the UP Board, CBSE and CISCE schools do not have a provision for direct admission of students from other boards or states to Classes 10 and 12. While they accept students transferring from other schools affiliated with their respective boards, students coming from another board are generally not granted direct admission at these stages.Meanwhile, more than one-third of the 28,834 UP Board-affiliated schools have failed to upload basic infrastructure-related information for the 2027 high school and Intermediate examinations. The board directed all schools to upload the details by July 20. However, by 5 pm on Monday, only 15,291 schools had submitted their information on the board portal.
