Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) will conduct a door-to-door survey of voters from Oct ahead of the three-tier panchayat and urban local body elections scheduled in the state next year. The decision was announced at a high-level review meeting held via video conferencing on Tuesday. The meeting chaired by State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi was attended by commissioners of all municipal corporations, district collectors, sub-collectors and deputy collectors in charge of election duties. The commissioner held detailed discussions with district collectors on key aspects related to the management of the upcoming elections.At the meeting, it was stated that booth-wise voter lists would be prepared on the basis of the ground situation through the door-to-door survey. Discussions also covered assigning serial house numbers to every household, listing all eligible members of a family in sequence, removing the names of ineligible voters and including left-out eligible voters through the legal process, official sources said.For the survey, the booth-level officer concerned will be appointed team leader of each group. Two anganwadi workers will assist the BLO. Where required, ASHA workers, Jal Sathis or Swachh Sathis will also be included in the teams. Supervisors and electoral registration officers at the block and urban levels will oversee the process. The activities are to be completed by July 31.The meeting also reviewed the survey process, booth and ward boundary demarcation, collection of claims and objection forms, digitisation of survey data and implementation of the programme within the prescribed timeline. “The draft voter list is targeted to be published on Jan 1, 2027, and the final voter list on Feb 10, 2027,” an official statement issued by the SEC said.Instructions have been issued to strictly conduct door-to-door surveys at the administrative level to revise and refine the voter list. To ensure that no eligible citizen is left out, officials have been asked to include new applicants and delete the names of voters who are deceased, have relocated or are otherwise ineligible.The commissioner emphasised correcting errors in the voter list and publishing a transparent and error-free final electoral roll within the stipulated time. “Special attention has also been directed toward ensuring that, for the convenience of voters, the names of all members of one family are listed in sequence at the same booth,” the statement said. District collectors have been advised to train personnel who will be engaged in the election process.
