Mysuru: The works of a 100-bed hospital in Hanchipura village on B Matakere-Saraguru Road have started. Once functional, this hospital will be a lifeline for residents of 94 villages in Saraguru taluk, mostly tribals, SCs and OBCs. The hospital is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 32 crore.According to the authorities, this hospital will cater to the most backward villages and tribal haadis in Saraguru, which still lack all-season roads and other facilities. This hospital is expected to provide easy access to healthcare support for the patients from these remote areas.According to HD Kote taluk health officer Dr T Ravi Kumar, the works of this hospital started recently. “Once the works are completed, the pressure on HD Kote taluk hospital will come down,” he said.Saraguru is one of the new taluks created in Mysuru district. The state govt has also taken up a 100-bed hospital in another newly started taluk, Saligrama. Both Saraguru and Saligrama had 30-bed capacity community health centres. After the formation of the new taluks, 100-bed hospitals were sanctioned to these. Till date, residents of this area were either visiting HD Kote or Nanjangud taluk hospitals or healthcare facilities in Mysuru city.According to the authorities, every month, the Saraguru CHC with 30 beds was recording an average 120 to 130 inpatients, and 4,000 to 4,500 outpatients. To improve the health infrastructure in the area and bring down the pressure on nearby public health facilities, this new hospital has been sanctioned.“The works started recently. The hospital will have all modern facilities. It will be a big boon to the communities, mostly from the socially weaker sections and tribals,” said Ravi Kumar.
