Bagalkot: It has come to light that the body of an 18-month-old child was kept amidst 50 kg of salt in the hope of bringing her back to life on Monday. It is reported that the procedure was followed based on a social media post.Sources at the district hospital said that Ameena Pathan, from Navanagar, was brought dead. “When the body was about to be sent for postmortem, the Pathan family requested that the procedure be delayed as they were advised by relatives to keep the body in salt. They even showed a social media post about the same,” they added. It is learnt that, acting on a social media claim that those who die by drowning can be revived by placing the body in salt, the family procured 50 kg of salt from the market and covered the entire body except the child’s face. They waited for nearly two hours, praying for her revival. However, doctors later convinced them to remove the body. A postmortem was subsequently conducted, and the body was handed over to the parents.Family members said they acted out of desperation. “Ameena accidentally fell into a water tank while playing and died on the spot,” they added.Navanagar police visited the spot and reviewed the situation.
