An IITian couple’s detailed destination wedding budget near Jim Corbett has shocked the internet after they revealed costs touching Rs 50-80 lakh.

From jewellery to resort stays, every expense added up fast
Big destination weddings in India are no longer just about one grand day. For many families, they now include luxury resorts, designer clothes, multiple events and huge guest lists spread across several days.
An IITian couple from Bengaluru has now shared what really goes behind planning such a celebration. Their detailed wedding budget breakdown has left many people online shocked, especially after they revealed that destination weddings in India can easily cost between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 80 lakh.
Couple Shares Wedding Expenses Online
Apoorva Dixit and Manu Shukla, both IIT Kanpur graduates, recently posted an Instagram video explaining how much they spent on their destination wedding near Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand. The couple said they always wanted a destination wedding because they wanted more time with close friends and family instead of a rushed one-day event.
Apoorva explained, “We always knew we wanted a destination wedding, because for us it was never just about the wedding day, it was about spending quality time with our loved ones and creating memories that would stay with us forever.”
According to them, the biggest expense was the wedding venue and accommodation for guests. Luxury resorts, especially during wedding season, can take up a major part of the budget.
The couple also spoke about photography and videography costs, which have become a huge part of modern weddings. Manu said destination wedding photography packages usually range between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, depending on the scale of the celebrations.
Outfits And Jewellery Raised The Bill
Like many Indian weddings, the couple had multiple functions including haldi, mehendi, sangeet, cocktail parties, the wedding ceremony and reception. Each event needed separate outfits and styling.
Apoorva shared that her wedding outfits together cost around Rs 2 lakh. Manu, on the other hand, said he managed to keep his clothing budget lower by buying fabrics himself and getting six outfits stitched for around Rs 80,000.
Apart from clothes, they also spent money on accessories, travel, gifts for guests and event props.
According to Apoorva, these additional costs together came close to Rs 5 lakh. The couple also followed several traditional customs from Uttar Pradesh during their wedding.
Apoorva revealed that gold jewellery worth around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh was included as part of the celebrations and family traditions.
Couple Talks About Financial Planning
Even while discussing such large numbers, the couple repeatedly stressed the importance of budgeting carefully before planning a wedding. “Money wise, we had only one rule, the wedding budget should stay within twice our annual income,” they explained in the video.
Manu also said destination wedding prices in India are increasing rapidly because of rising hotel costs and growing demand for luxury wedding services. “So realistically, if you’re planning a destination wedding in India today, you can expect to spend around Rs 60 to Rs 80 lakhs,” he said.
At the same time, the couple made it clear that expensive weddings are not necessary for everyone. Apoorva said, “But at the end of the day, there’s no one right way to celebrate a wedding. Just do what makes you and your loved ones happy.”
Later, Apoorva also added in the comments section that couples should spend responsibly and avoid putting themselves under financial pressure.
Internet Reacts To Massive Wedding Budget
Soon after the video spread online, social media users flooded the comments section with reactions. Many people joked that hearing the numbers itself was stressful.
A user wrote, “After hearing the budget, I don’t want to marry.” Another commented, “After hearing your budget, I am like, let’s not get married.”
“I have to save a lot I guess,” another person said. A user gave practical advice and wrote, “Just do down payment for your home-loan and take a chill pill”.
A comment also asked, “Was the expenses paid by both of you only or your parents paid it??” Someone else simply asked, “How much for food and Drinks?”
