A woman in Mumbai excitedly waited for her Uber for one reason only: a female driver. She shared a video on her Instagram account, revealing how the driver, who is a single mother and a makeup artist as well, chose an unexpected way to build a more independent life for herself. Both of them struck up a conversation, where the driver opened up about why she decided to get behind the wheel.
The passenger, Aayushi Lahiri, who is an actor by profession, showed that the driver named Shobhna was on her way to pick her up. Upon entering the cab, she told her, “Main aapse milne ke liye itni excited ho gayi naam dekh ke (I got so excited to meet you after seeing your name). It’s so good to see a lady driver.”
When asked how long she was driving a cab, the woman, who primarily works as a bridal makeup artist, revealed that she began driving a cab in June. The passengers further questioned why she decided to take up the job, she explained that she wanted to do something different and productively user her time.
“Hamara jo kaam hai na wo regular nahi hai (Our work is not regular),” she said, adding that she wanted to do something else during the time she was not working as a makeup artist. That is when she decided to drive cabs. Shobhna shared that she had a knack for driving from a young age. Hence, she took up driving as a profession besides makeup.
She also revealed that she is a single mother and told the passenger that she can also drive vans at night; that’s how much she is passionate about driving. The revelation prompted Aayushi to ask her to pick her up at night, which left both of them laughing. The video ended with the actress telling Shobhna that she has done a short film on a lady driver.
In the caption, Aayushi wrote, “Favourite Uber ride till date. To inspiring women.”

Their interaction soon caught the attention of people on the platform, who praised the woman for choosing independence and the determination to build a life in their own way.
