Hyderabad: In one of the biggest disproportionate assets (DA) cases in recent months, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Tuesday conducted simultaneous searches at 10 locations linked to a deputy director of survey and land records in Hyderabad and unearthed assets worth over Rs 30 crore. The accused official has been arrested.The accused was identified as Sunkari Narahari Rao, deputy director, multi zone-II, survey and land records, Telangana. During the searches at the accused officer’s residence, ACB officials recovered Rs 1.54 crore in cash allegedly concealed in the attic.Based on a preliminary investigation, the ACB registered a disproportionate assets case against Narahari Rao under the Prevention of Corruption Act and launched coordinated searches at 10 locations, including his residence and properties linked to his relatives, benamis and other associates.The searches revealed a vast array of movable and immovable assets allegedly disproportionate to the known sources of income of the accused officer.Among the properties detected were five plots located at Parigi, Dulapally, Korremula and Shamshabad; 1.24 acres of agricultural land at Maheshwaram; a 2,500 sq ft flat in a high-rise apartment at Puppalaguda; two 1,860 sq ft flats in a high-rise apartment at Narsingi; a 1,377 sq ft flat in Rajendra Nagar; a G+3 building constructed on 205 square yards at TNGOs Colony in Gachibowli; and a G+2 residential building at Chatrinaka.The teams also seized 1.3 kg of gold ornaments, 8 kg of silver articles, documents relating to bank balances amounting to Rs 2.29 crore and fixed deposits worth Rs 5.04 crore. A Kia Carens Smartstream car was also seized during the operation.“The total documentary value of the assets detected during the searches is about Rs 13.05 crore. The market value of the immovable properties is expected to be many times higher than the document value. The total value of the assets linked to the accused would be over Rs 30 crore,” an ACB official said.Officials said further verification was underway to ascertain whether additional assets linked to the accused had been acquired through illegal means.“The accused has acquired disproportionate assets by indulging in corrupt practices and dubious means during his service. He has been arrested and will be produced before the principal special judge for SPE & ACB cases, Nampally, for judicial remand,” ACB said.In recent times, ACB officials carried out simultaneous searches at 15 locations across Hyderabad and detected disproportionate assets valued at over Rs 50 crore belonging to Mohan Naik, engineer-in-chief of the roads and buildings department. The ACB arrested deputy collector Marri Vamsi Mohan after searches revealed properties and assets worth over Rs 10 crore. The ACB also booked a DA case against suspended additional SP N Bhujanga Rao for allegedly acquiring illegal assets to the tune of over Rs 50 crore.Meanwhile, the ACB appealed to members of the public to report instances of bribery by public servants through its toll-free number, 1064.
