With the monsoon making roads increasingly slippery, authorities have urged motorists to drive slowly and exercise caution. Yet, every year, speeding and loss of control on rain-soaked roads continue to result in serious accidents.
This time, a video from West Bengal has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving after a biker lost control of his motorcycle on a rain-soaked hilly road, which could have ended very badly.
The incident took place near Kurseong View Point, a scenic hill station located between Siliguri and Darjeeling in West Bengal. The video, which was posted on Instagram, showed a biker wearing a sky-blue raincoat riding at a considerable speed on the rain-soaked road. He was seen looking behind while he drove forward.
Moments later, he appeared to drive towards the ditch when the person filming the video warned him by shouting. He then lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating the bend and crashed into a roadside rock.
Beyond the edge of the road lay a steep valley, making the incident all the more dangerous because had he not stopped his bike at that moment, he could have directly driven into the ditch.
The impact of the crash was such that the rider’s shoe was seen flying off. He then regained control of his motorcycle before falling onto the other side of the road. His bike fell while he balanced himself on the green grass. The other biker came to his rescue. Notably, the extent of his injuries was not revealed.
“Ajj shayad jamraj ka day off tha,” the text overlaying the video read. In the caption of the post, the rider wrote, “Safe drive save life.”

The shocking incident caught attention on the platform, with people asking the riders to drive safely in such weather conditions, while others used humour to react to it.
An individual wrote, “Rider is completely at fault; he was looking at the other way where there was a turn ahead. Ride responsibly, brother.”
“Your friend gave you a second life,” said a user.
“Yamraaj ka missed call tha, receive nhi hua,” another user joked.
Meanwhile, someone else shared, “Rule no. 1: never turn ur head on ghats.”
Common causes of accidents on wet roads include obscured vision due to a foggy helmet visor, loss of steering control on muddy or wet surfaces, and vehicles becoming uncontrollable due to water-filled potholes on dilapidated roads.
