An Indian woman living in the US has shared a reality check for people planning to move abroad, saying life overseas is not as easy as many imagine. In a video, she spoke about the everyday chores that come with living independently and urged newcomers not to expect the same comforts they may have back home.

One example she gave surprised many people online. She claimed that buying drinking water every few days has become part of her routine, something she never expected before moving to the US.

She Shares Her Experience

In the video, the woman said she spends about $3.50 (around ₹300) every three days on large bottles of drinking water. She joked that carrying those heavy bottles would become one of the stories she would tell her future children.

“I thought I would become independent after coming to America. But first I have to arrange for water and then chase my dreams,” she said. She also spoke directly to people, especially women, who hope to settle abroad.

According to her, they should not expect the “princess treatment” they may receive at home, where parents often handle many daily chores. The woman explained that after long hours at work, even simple tasks like buying and carrying water can feel tiring. She also said that despite all the effort, she still struggles with dry skin.

Social Media Questions Her Claims

While some people related to her experience of adjusting to life abroad, many users disagreed with her comments about drinking water.

A user wrote, “No one does this in America absolutely no one! This is complete bullshit.” Another commented, “She must be dumb as a brick or just making viral content. RO purifiers are quite affordable and can be installed at homes. Most times it is not needed at all.”

A person pointed out, “It is just a cultural thing. You can get RO filter for 150 USD btw.” Another person suggested a simpler solution, writing, “there are water filters u can buy and keep in your kitchen that will filter the water, one of the companies is Dreo.”

One comment added, “Under Sink RO filter equipments do exist starting from 150 to 1500$ my frnd has one installed since their refrigerator doesnt have a water dispenser they installed a bigger RO system in garage coz hard water leading to balding for him and his wife, costed 1200$.”

Common challenges for immigrants in the US include the high cost of living,,,, the expense of everyday items like RO water purifiers,, and the need to adjust to a less comfortable lifestyle than anticipated,.
