A comedian’s interaction with an audience member took an unexpected turn during a stand-up show. He first claimed to be Indian, tried to hug her on stage, and was then asked one simple question.

The exchange quickly turned into a heated online debate.

Audience Interaction Takes An Unexpected Turn

A stand-up comedy show took an awkward turn after an audience member claimed he was Indian, tried to hug the comedian without her permission, and later admitted he was actually from Pakistan.

The incident happened during a performance by comedian Kate Hu. A clip from the show has since been widely shared online, with many social media users reacting to the man’s actions and his confession.

Comedian Questions The Audience Member

In the video, shared by Kate Hu on Instagram on July 6, the comedian is seen chatting with a couple sitting in the audience. The woman appears to be Chinese, and Hu asks if the man with her is Indian.

“So you’re Chinese. And he’s Indian, right?” Hu asks. The woman replies, “Unfortunately.” Hu then jokes that her own boyfriend is also Indian. The woman responds by saying, “He’s a different species.”

Hug Attempt Leads To Confession

The conversation took an unexpected turn when the man suddenly got up and tried to hug the comedian on stage. Hu immediately stepped back and stopped him.

An on-screen caption in the video reads, “No touching the comedian.” She then questioned why he tried to hug her and decided to ask him something else. “Which state of India are you from?” she asked.

The man was unable to answer. A few moments later, he admitted, “Uh, I am from Pakistan.” The clip was later reposted on X, where it quickly drew attention and sparked discussion among users.

Social Media Reacts To The Clip

Many people criticised the man for first claiming to be Indian before revealing that he was Pakistani.

A user wrote, “Pakistanis are really suffering from identity crisis at the last stage.” Another commented, “Never seen an Indian claiming to be Pakistani abroad, why do Pakis then claim to be Indians?”

Similar reactions appeared on Instagram as well. A person wrote, “Pretending to be Indian abroad gets caught.” Another comment read, “Pakistanis are really suffering from identity crisis at the last stage.”

Someone else claimed, “90 out of 100 Pakistanis call themselves Indians when they’re abroad.”

Broader implications of identity claims abroad include social media criticism and accusations of identity crises. Some social media users suggest that Pakistanis frequently claim to be Indian when abroad.
