An Urban Company service professional has shared an incident involving her colleague that has started a debate about how gig workers are treated inside customers’ homes. According to her, a customer refused to let her colleague use the washroom after a long service and later left a one-star rating that affected her work.
The woman spoke about the incident in a video shared on X. She said the experience was upsetting, especially because workers depend heavily on customer ratings to keep getting bookings and earning a living.
Worker Shares Colleague’s Experience
According to the post shared with the video, the incident took place in Delhi. The service professional claimed that her colleague had spent nearly three hours working at a customer’s home. After finishing the job, she asked if she could use the washroom. The customer allegedly refused and told her to use the security guard’s washroom instead.
The post further claimed that the customer later gave her a one-star rating on Urban Company. According to the viral post, the poor rating led to the worker being blocked from receiving bookings on the platform for five days.
Speaking in the video, the woman said she felt deeply disappointed by what had happened. “If someone comes to your house to work, at least let them use your washroom,” she said. She added that she had been working for six years and had visited hundreds of homes, including those of wealthy and well-known people, but had never seen anyone refuse such a request.
Questioning the customer’s review, she said, “Because of just one bad review from you, that girl will have a one-star rating. She may not get work for the next five days.”
She also spoke about the financial impact on her colleague, saying, “I feel really bad for that girl because she won’t have any income for those five days. Imagine the pressure she must be under.”
The service professional urged customers to be more understanding, saying that every booking matters for workers whose income depends on ratings. She also claimed that Urban Company’s policy asks customers to allow service professionals to use the washroom whenever needed.
Internet Remains Divided
The video has received many reactions online, with users sharing different opinions on the issue. Some people supported the worker and said service professionals should be treated with respect while working inside someone’s home.
Others, however, felt customers should have the right to decide whether they want to allow someone to use their private washroom.
A user wrote, “I’ve always allowed female workers to use my washroom w/o hesitation. A beautician from YesMadam used guest washroom after service, later I found menstrual blood on the toilet seat and floor. This isn’t about periods,it’s about basic hygiene and respect for someone else’s home.”

Another commented, “I usually wash my washroom N I don’t allow anyone to use my washroom except my wife n my child I don’t think she has done wrong It’s her right Washroom use karna hai karo Par uske baad washroom wash karogi bolo.”
“I think maintaining personal hygiene is a choice we should respect that you cannot claim to use any washroom if customer giving you another option you should take it rather complaining The 1 star I think is the result of the bad conversation,” another person said.
Some users disagreed with that view. A comment read, “This is the discrimatory mentality exist for ages. This mentality has not changed even in the female to a female. How can anyone not allow for natural calls for a person who is working for her.”
Another user added, “India needs equality of labor asap. People enjoying benefits of gig economy think of themselves as Maharaja. Have seen people assume the service provider as their servants because they paid Rs. 453.”
