Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested along with two accomplices after an encounter in Fatehpur late Saturday. The police recovered two .315-bore country-made pistols, three cartridges, Rs 20,500 in cash, looted jewellery, a mobile phone and a motorcycle from the accused, Sumit Kumar alias Jwala Sonkar (25).He was admitted to a hospital in Fatehpur for treatment.Police said a joint team of Chandpur and Jahanabad police was conducting routine checks near Harkundi Pulia on Amaili Road when they noticed three suspicious men on a motorcycle. The cops signalled them to stop, but they tried to escape and slipped from the bike.However, when the police team surrounded them, one of the men opened fire. The cops retaliated, resulting in Sumit Kumar sustaining a gunshot injury to his left leg.Police said Sumit, a resident of Amauli village in Fatehpur, has 10 criminal cases pending against him in Fatehpur and Kaushambi.His two accomplices, identified as Shomil Patel and Nihal, both residents of Chandpur, were also arrested.
