Two held for attempted extortion at knifepoint in Kochi

The Kochi City police arrested two youngsters for allegedly vandalising a juice shop and attempting to extort money at knifepoint at Valanjambalam near MG Road on Sunday evening, triggering panic among customers..

The arrested persons were identified as Sachin, 26, and A.L. Bichu, 26, both natives of Alappuzha. The police said CCTV footage showed Sachin entering the shop armed with a knife, confronting a young man at the cash counter, stabbing the counter, and then turning towards customers. The duo later fled on a motorcycle.

Reportedly, Sachin is involved in several criminal cases, including narcotic cases, and had previously served a prison sentence. It also emerged that the Alappuzha police had initiated proceedings under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) against him before he left the district and moved to Kochi.
