US President Donald Trump has shared an AI-generated video appearing to show him throwing late-night host Stephen Colbert into a dustbin, adding another chapter to the long-running feud between the two public figures.

The altered clip, posted on Trump’s X account, comes days after CBS aired the final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, ending Colbert’s 11-year run as host. The comedian took over the programme in 2015 following David Letterman’s retirement.

The AI video appears to mock Colbert’s departure from television and quickly circulated online, drawing reactions amid ongoing debate over the cancellation of one of America’s highest-rated late-night shows.

Trump has repeatedly criticised Colbert over the years, calling him “untalented” and celebrating the cancellation of The Late Show. Following Colbert’s final episode this week, Trump reportedly posted that he was glad the host was “finally gone”.

Why Did Stephen Colbert’s Show End?

CBS announced earlier that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would conclude in May 2026, citing financial pressures facing traditional late-night television despite Colbert leading ratings in his time slot.

Falling advertising revenue, changing viewing habits and the rise of streaming platforms have increasingly affected the late-night TV industry.

However, the cancellation became politically controversial because it came after Colbert criticised Paramount — CBS’s parent company — over a legal settlement involving Trump, while Paramount simultaneously sought regulatory approval for a major merger.

CBS denied political influence and said the decision was purely economic.

Colbert’s Final Episode Drew Millions

Colbert’s farewell episode reportedly attracted millions of viewers, significantly above the show’s usual audience.

The finale included appearances from celebrities and fellow late-night hosts, with many praising Colbert’s willingness to criticise powerful political figures.

Hollywood personalities and Democratic politicians defended Colbert following the cancellation, while Trump and some conservative commentators welcomed the end of the show.

AI Videos And Political Satire Under Spotlight

The AI-generated clip shared by Trump has renewed debate over synthetic media and political content online.

Experts have warned that AI-generated videos increasingly blur the line between satire, parody and misinformation, particularly when shared by influential public figures.
