Belagavi: A truck overturned near Badekolmath on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway on Friday morning after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The driver escaped with minor injuries.The accident led to a massive traffic jam, with vehicles lined up for nearly a kilometre. Hirebagewadi police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Commuters voiced concern over the lack of warning signs on the accident-prone stretch, where six accidents have been reported in the past week.Traffic on the busy highway came to a standstill for more than two hours after the container truck overturned in the middle of the road. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded until police, with the help of a crane, cleared the vehicle and restored traffic movement.Police commissioner Bhushan G Borase has initiated several road safety measures since taking charge in Belagavi. The Badekolmath stretch has been identified as a red zone. However, locals said the number of accidents has remained high, with six mishaps reported in just one week.Residents have urged the police department to implement stricter measures to curb accidents and improve safety on the highway.
