Belagavi: Representatives of the Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha and various Basava organisations felicitated Rani Channamma University registrar Santosh Kamagouda and Syndicate member Mahanthesh Kambar following the establishment of a Basava Studies Chair at the university. The organisations said the initiative fulfilled a long-pending demand to promote academic research on the life, philosophy and teachings of 12th-century social reformer Basavanna. The proposal was spearheaded by SM Jamadar and district president Basavaraj Rotti. The organisations stated that they had submitted a memorandum nearly two years ago urging the university to establish a dedicated academic chair for the study of Basavanna’s life, philosophy and teachings. Basavanna is widely recognised for championing equality, social justice and progressive social reforms. With the proposal now implemented, the delegation thanked vice-chancellor Dr Tyagaraj, registrar Santosh Kamagouda, Syndicate member Mahanthesh Kambar and other university officials for responding positively to the demand and taking the necessary steps to establish the academic chair.
