CHENNAI: A traffic police inspector posted with the Traffic Enforcement Wing in Ranipet district was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman in Chennai’s Velachery while under the influence of alcohol, police said.The accused, identified as 45-year-old Manimaran, had come to Chennai on Sunday to meet his niece. According to police, the two consumed alcohol before travelling towards Velachery on a motorcycle, with Manimaran riding pillion.Police alleged that while passing through a road in Velachery, Manimaran inappropriately touched a woman walking along the road. The woman raised an alarm, following which passers-by and motorists came to her aid.Based on the woman’s complaint, the Velachery Police registered a case and launched an investigation. After examining CCTV footage from the area, officers identified and traced the accused.Manimaran was arrested on Tuesday and later produced before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
