Kanpur: Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Kanpur Nagar) Atul Kumar Nayak on Monday convicted Afzal Khan in an eve-teasing and harassment case and sentenced him to three years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000.The case was registered on Jan 8, 2015, on the directions of the court.According to the prosecution, the victim was employed with a PNG company in Saket Nagar, where Afzal Khan, a resident of Jajmau, also worked. The accused allegedly made obscene gestures, pressured her for intimacy and repeatedly demanded money. The victim further alleged that Afzal had hacked her email and Facebook accounts and sent morphed photographs to her relatives. Distressed by the harassment, she resigned from the company and joined a shopping mall in the city. However, the accused allegedly followed her there as well and continued to harass her.The victim initially lodged a complaint at Kotwali police station, but the police filed a final report. She then approached the court, following which the Kotwali police registered an FIR against the accused.During the trial, the prosecution examined three witnesses, all of whom supported the victim’s allegations. After hearing arguments from both sides and examining the evidence on record, the court held Afzal Khan guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
