Kanpur: A tannery worker’s body was found on a road in Wajidpur area, within the jurisdiction of the Jajmau police station, late on Sunday night. On being alerted, the police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and initiated an investigation.The deceased was identified as Chintu, 32, son of Vishwanath Ram, a resident of Nichli Pahadpur, Vaishali district in Bihar. He is survived by his wife, Sunita Devi, and three daughters – Priyanka, Shrinka, and Ambika. Sources said that Chintu was run over by an unidentified vehicle.Chintu worked with his cousin at a factory approximately 100 metres away from the incident site, and lived with his family in a room at the tannery premises. His cousin, Ganesh, reported that Chintu left at 7pm on Sunday for a haircut and was missing since then.According to tannery workers, after haircut Chintu went for consuming alcohol with some friends. In inebriated state he lay down on the road leading to Jal Nigam, they said. Eyewitnesses informed the police that a car ran over him and fled.Station in-charge Sanjay Pandey stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway, and further actions will be based on the findings of the post-mortem report. Footage from the nearby CCTV cameras will be scanned, said police.
