Belagavi: Belagavi police have arrested six persons, including a woman, for allegedly masterminding the murder of her two brothers-in-law at Nugganatti village of Yaragatti taluk over a property dispute.SP K Ramarajan said Basappa and Lagamanna were killed in a midnight attack on July 16, while Fakirappa and Balesh were injured.Addressing mediapersons on Saturday, the SP said that six persons, including the elder brother’s wife, have been arrested in connection with the case.Fakirappa has three sons — Yallappa, Basappa and Lagamanna. Yallappa’s wife, Annavva, has been living at her parental home for several years. A dispute had earlier arose over the division of the family’s 9-acre agricultural land. The matter was settled through mediation by the village elders befoer being formalised at a court.Under the settlement, Annavva was paid Rs 2 lakh as compensation, and it was agreed that her son, Neelakanth, would be allotted 1-acre land after he turns a major.However, differences surfaced recently over the survey of the land. Police said the renewed dispute allegedly led to the conspiracy to eliminate Basappa and Lagamanna, who were attacked with deadly weapons and killed. The weapons allegedly used in the crime have been recovered.A case has been registered at Muragod police station. Investigation is under way, the SP said.
