HYDERABAD: A trainee IPS officer has been booked for allegedly stalking, sexually harassing and assaulting a fellow probationer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, with the woman officer accusing him of intimidation, blackmail and physical abuse over several weeks.The 30-year-old complainant alleged that the accused began harassing her in late June by sending sexually abusive messages and making derogatory remarks about her before fellow trainees at the academy.According to the complaint, the accused falsely claimed that she was in a relationship with another trainee officer and pressured her to admit to the alleged affair while subjecting her to verbal abuse.The woman officer further alleged that the accused intimidated and blackmailed her into showing him her personal messages.On July 8, he allegedly took her mobile phone to his room and forced her to reveal its password. She also accused him of groping her.The complainant said that on July 9, the accused wrongfully restrained her, dragged her to his room, pulled her by the hair, attempted to strangulate her and held a knife to her neck, preventing her from leaving.She alleged that he assaulted her again the following day.The woman officer also accused the trainee of recording a private video of her without her consent and sending it to her husband in an attempt to blackmail her.Based on the complaint, Attapur police registered a case on Saturday under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of sexual harassment, stalking, assault or criminal force intended to outrage a woman’s modesty, and insulting the modesty of a woman.Relevant sections of the Information Technology Act have also been invoked.(With PTI inputs)
