A deeply unsettling post about an entire family losing their jobs at nearly the same time has sparked widespread discussion online, with many users calling it a reflection of the harsh realities of today’s job market.
The viral post, shared on Reddit under the title “Our entire family has been laid off, and we are all in panic mode.” “Need advice” described how every earning member in the household, including both parents and all four siblings, had reportedly been laid off over the past year.
According to the post, the family had backgrounds in industries once considered financially secure, including big tech, fintech, and aviation. However, layoffs across sectors reportedly left every member unemployed at almost the same time, pushing the family into what they described as a severe financial crisis.
“Everyone in our family has been laid off, and now we’re in a financial crisis. No one is able to find work. Both of our parents and all four of our siblings have been laid off. No one can help each other, and now we are all worried,” the user wrote.
The individual further explained that both they and their sister had previously worked at FAANG companies before being laid off. While the sister has reportedly been struggling to find another job for more than a year, the user said they were also recently laid off without severance pay.
Another brother working in fintech allegedly lost his job last year, while the youngest sister was impacted after the airline company she worked for shut down.
The situation reportedly became even more stressful because the family is also dealing with three active mortgages and rapidly shrinking savings. “I never imagined in a million years that we would all be f***ed at the same time,” the user wrote, adding that the family’s current discussions revolve around deciding “which house to save”.
The post quickly went viral, drawing thousands of reactions from users sharing both advice and personal experiences. “Everybody needs to get temp jobs until something stable comes along,” one user commented.
Another wrote, “These layoffs are spreading far beyond tech now.”
Some users also recalled surviving similar situations during earlier recessions. “Went through something similar in 2009. Everyone moved into one house for a few years just to survive,” one comment read.
Another suggested that the family should focus on protecting the home with the strongest long-term financial prospects.
