Nat'l Deworming drive launched in Jhansi, targets over 10 lakh children

Jhansi: District magistrate Gaurang Rathi on Monday launched the National Deworming Day campaign by administering Albendazole tablets to students at The New Era Public School in Jhansi. He instructed officials to ensure that every eligible child is covered. The drive targets over 10 lakh children aged one to 19 years. Rathi directed health and education departments to follow the micro-plan strictly and ensure tablets are given to children at schools and other designated centres, not handed to parents. While reviewing the campaign, the DM said all govt and private schools, colleges and madrasas must participate so that every child receives the dose. Special focus will be placed on underprivileged children from nomadic families, with mobile teams deployed to reach them, he said.Officials said children aged one to two years will receive half a tablet, those aged two to three years a full tablet, and children aged three to 19 years must chew the tablet thoroughly and drink sufficient water afterward.Rathi interacted with students and encouraged them to take the medicine and motivate others. A mop-up round is scheduled for Aug 14 to cover children who miss the dose.
