Khandre orders probe into toxic waste discharge

Bidar: RDPR minister Eshwar B Khandre has directed Bidar district administration to investigate the discharge of toxic chemical waste from certain factories in Humnabad Industrial Area into Maniknagar stream and Guruganga and Meerja rivers, and to take strict action in accordance with the law. Having directed the DC in this regard, the minister stated that govt took a serious view of media reports indicating that groundwater in the surrounding areas, including Manik Nagar, Humnabad, Gadavanti, Molkera, Dhumman Sur, and Hudugi, are contaminated. Thousands of devotees from across the state visit Manikaprabhu Temple and take a holy dip in the river and also consume its water as ‘teertha’ (holy water). In this backdrop, Khandre directed officials to conduct water tests, and submit a report on the action taken within 48 hours.
