A software engineer has shared five lessons he believes helped him land multiple high-paying job offers from companies in Germany and across Europe. His post has started a discussion among tech professionals, especially those hoping to build a career abroad.

The engineer explained that there was no secret formula behind his success. Instead, he said the process required patience, consistency, and years of experience.

He Shared What Worked For Him

In a post titled, “What it took me to get an offer from Germany – the answer isn’t very exciting”, the techie spoke about his journey and the steps that helped him secure offers from companies paying more than 100,000 euros in annual base salary.

According to the post, he completed his master’s degree and spent the next six years building experience while switching jobs several times. He also shared that he currently earns around Rs 75 lakh per year while working remotely.

One of his biggest takeaways was that getting an overseas job is largely a numbers game.

Applying Consistently Matters

The engineer said candidates should be prepared to apply for a large number of positions because only a limited number of companies are willing to sponsor visas. He also noted that experience plays a major role.

According to him, many of the best-paying roles in Europe often go to candidates who have worked at FAANG companies or fast-growing technology firms.

Another point he highlighted was the importance of handling rejection well. “Don’t take rejections personally,” he advised, explaining that many employers may choose candidates from Europe with similar skills simply because hiring them involves fewer visa-related challenges.

The techie also said that applicants from India often need to go beyond meeting the basic requirements. According to him, candidates should aim to be stronger than the average applicant and show clear value during the hiring process.

His final tip focused on interview performance. Technical skills are important, he said, but being friendly, confident, and easy to work with can also make a difference.
