For many professionals, a big salary hike is hard to ignore. But one Bengaluru-based techie has shared why he believes stability can sometimes matter more than a bigger pay package, especially in today’s uncertain IT job market.

Through an Instagram video, he recalled what happened to one of his friends after switching jobs for a much higher salary. The story sparked a discussion online, with users divided over whether playing safe or taking risks is the better approach.

He Left For A Bigger Package

In a video titled “Less salary in a big company better than a high salary in a small company,” Bengaluru-based techie Sunny Kumar spoke about a friend who was working at MasterCard in Pune.

“One of my friends was working at MasterCard Pune. He had a good salary, a good work profile. Everything was good for him,” he said.

According to Kumar, his friend later received an offer from a small consultancy that promised a 60 per cent hike in his CTC. He admitted that saying no to such an offer is difficult for most people.

However, things did not go as planned. Kumar said his friend resigned from MasterCard and joined the new company.

About six months later, the consultancy reportedly lost a major project. Employees were allegedly asked to resign, failing which they would be terminated. He said his friend eventually lost his job.

Using the incident as an example, Kumar advised people to think carefully before changing jobs. “If you are working in a stable job, good salary, good company, then I would really suggest even if you are getting 60-70%, even 100% hike — at least for six month to one year, don’t switch. The IT sector is really volatile these days,” he concluded.

Users Share Different Views

The video drew mixed reactions from social media users. A user said, “Somehow You are right But with less salary you can’t manage for too long. Switch accordingly so that can get good salary and get placed in a good company.”

Another person wrote, “My Friend, Kindly Add a Note: This moral is for ordinary people who want an average life and job. Take Risks Guys. Even if you fail, your worst case scenario will be you will get a different job and that’s the best case scenario for others.”

An individual reacted, “Go back to mastercard or equivalent since you know the hiring process also, the new salary will also have a hike of 30 % in just 6 month he had grown much.”

A comment read, “Totally agreed.” Someone wrote, “I already made this mistake. Feeling bad now.”
