Haryana Municipal Election Results 2026, Election Commission of India Live Updates: The BJP is leading overall in the Haryana municipal election results so far. Counting of votes for Haryana’s local body elections is underway across key municipal corporations, councils and committees, including Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat.
Key highlights
- Ambala: BJP has emerged strongly in Ambala, winning multiple wards and taking a massive lead in the mayoral race. BJP candidate Akshita Saini is ahead by 17,786 votes after 13 rounds, while the party has also swept the first six declared wards in Ambala. Congress opened its account later with Gunjit Kaur winning Ward No. 8.
- Sonipat: In Sonipat, BJP mayoral candidate Rajiv Jain has built a strong lead of 9,544 votes after four rounds of counting against Congress rival Kamal Diwan. BJP has also won several wards, including Wards 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13. Congress earlier won Ward No. 1 through Jai Kumar Khatri.
- In Panchkula, BJP candidate Shyamlal Bansal has maintained a comfortable lead in the mayoral contest. After four rounds, he secured 13,473 votes against Congress candidate Sudha Bhardwaj’s 4,539 votes.
- In Rewari, results showed a mixed trend with Independent candidate Shilpi Sharma winning Ward No. 1, BJP winning Wards 2 and 4, and Congress taking Ward No. 3.
- BJP faced a setback in Uklana Municipal Committee in Hisar, where Congress-backed Independent candidate Reema Soni defeated BJP candidate Nikita Goyal by 2,806 votes.
The elections, held on Sunday, recorded an overall voter turnout of 54.5 per cent, according to State Election Commission data.
The elections covered mayoral and ward councillor posts in the municipal corporations of Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat, along with elections in the Rewari municipal council and municipal committees in Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana. By-elections for one ward each were also held in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Taraori, Kanina and Sadhaura.
The BJP and Congress are the principal contenders in the elections. BJP candidates Akshita Saini, Shyamlal Bansal and Rajiv Jain are contesting the mayoral races in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat respectively, while the Congress has fielded Kulwinder Kaur, Sudha Bhardwaj and Kamal Diwan.
