Many women in New Zealand take up jobs that are often considered unconventional elsewhere, from operating heavy vehicles to managing traffic on busy roads. An Indian woman living in the country recently shared why she believes this is possible, pointing to a culture where jobs are respected and women feel safer in public spaces.

In a video posted on Instagram, Dolly Prajapati spoke about the differences she has noticed while living in New Zealand. Her observations started a discussion online about workplace dignity, safety and women’s confidence.

She Explains What She Has Observed

Prajapati said women in New Zealand work across a wide range of professions without worrying about what others might think.

In the video, she said, “In New Zealand, women confidently do every kind of work without any hesitation, whether it’s driving massive trucks, working at construction sites, or sitting by the roadside monitoring roadwork and managing traffic control.”

According to her, one reason behind this confidence is the way society views work. “They have this level of self-confidence because, first of all, people here do not look down on any job as small or judge it. Secondly, and most importantly, passersby do not unnecessarily stare at or scan women from head to toe.”

The video also shows a woman standing in the middle of a roadwork area, directing traffic as vehicles pass through the construction zone.

She Points To Safety And Strict Laws

Prajapati said women are able to work comfortably because they feel secure in public spaces. “Issues like passing comments, harassment, or stalking are almost non-existent here. Even if someone does attempt such behaviour, there are strict laws in place that lead directly to imprisonment.”

She added that this sense of safety allows women to perform their jobs without fear. “This is exactly why women are able to work here openly and without fear. As you can see, roadwork is going on both sides of the street. This woman has been given the responsibility of standing right in the middle of the road to manage traffic control, and she is executing her duty with absolute honesty and confidence, completely free of any fear or hesitation.”

Prajapati also noted that such jobs are respected and offer good pay. The clip was shared with the caption, “Safety is the biggest strength of women in New Zealand.”

Social Media Users Agree With Her Views

Many social media users supported her observations in the comments section.

A user wrote, “This is what real women empowerment looks like.” Another commented, “Respect for every job is what makes a society better.” A person said, “Safety and dignity can change everything for women.”

Others echoed similar views, with comments such as, “This is why strict laws and civic sense are so important,” and “No job is small when people respect hard work.”

Another user added, “Women can do anything when society gives them safety and respect,” while one commenter wrote, “Every country should learn from this mindset.”
