Kanpur: Efforts to breed lioness Sudha, brought from Haryana in May 2026, have been started at Etawah Lion Safari.Authorities plan to first examine Sudha’s compatibility with Simba and Sultan and thereafter proceed with the breeding plan.The lioness was brought from Rohtak Zoo in Haryana on May 18, 2026. Sudha was kept in quarantine for 21 days and during this period, her health and behaviour were continuously monitored. After the completion of the quarantine period, her blood sample was tested at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Bareilly and as all test reports came back normal, she has been shifted to the Breeding Centre.The authorities stated that this is an usual process and will be based on the mutual behaviour of the wildlife.It may be noted that both Simba and Sultan are Asiatic lions born at Etawah Safari Park. Lioness Sudha was brought here to increase the number of lions in the Safari Park and strengthening the conservation programme.As part of the process of bringing lioness Sudha to Etawah Safari Park, the safari’s lion Ajju was sent to Rohtak Zoo.Meanwhile, the four cubs born to lioness Neerja on March 8, 2026 are being taken care of.
