Fear has replaced sleep in Bihar’s Darbhanga, where an unidentified midnight intruder has turned an entire village into a fortress of anxiety. For the second time in just eight days, a mysterious figure slipped silently into a home under the cover of darkness, cut the hair of a sleeping woman, ransacked the room and disappeared without leaving behind any significant clues.
The bizarre back-to-back incidents in Darhar village have left residents terrified, with many staying awake through the night, afraid the unknown stranger could strike again. Despite an intensive investigation, the mysterious intruder remains beyond the reach of police.
As panic spread across the village, Bihar government minister Madan Sahni rushed to meet the affected families. Surrounded by anxious residents, the minister assured them that the police were under pressure to solve the case and arrest whoever was behind the chilling incidents.
According to the latest victim, she woke up for just a few seconds to see a man dressed entirely in black carrying a bag before he vanished into the darkness. Moments later, she found her hair lying on the floor, household belongings scattered across the room and scissors left behind. She also claimed she felt unusually drowsy and suspected that some substance may have been used to keep her unconscious, although investigators are yet to confirm the claim.
What has made the mystery even more disturbing is the striking similarity between the two incidents. In both cases, the intruder allegedly entered homes without alerting anyone, targeted sleeping women, cut their hair, left valuables untouched, caused no physical injuries and escaped within moments. Both attacks also took place on Thursday nights, fuelling speculation that the same person may be behind the chilling pattern.
Police have deployed forensic experts, dog squads and multiple investigation teams, but the absence of CCTV footage and the lack of forensic evidence have made the hunt increasingly difficult. Investigators are also examining whether the crimes could be the work of a psychologically disturbed individual, though officials say all possibilities remain open.
The unexplained attacks have transformed Darhar village into a community living in fear, where every sound after sunset is met with suspicion. As police race against time to identify the elusive intruder, frightened residents are demanding answers before another night brings another unexplained visitor.
