Times News NetworkKanpur: Police and the SWAT team arrested a criminal carrying a reward of 25,000 during an encounter in Jalaun on Friday night. The accused was shot in the leg. A stolen bike and illegal weapons were recovered from him.In Orai, the Jalaun Kotwali policedo and the SWAT/Surveillance team, in a joint operation, arrested a criminal carrying a reward of 25,000 rupees during an encounter. In the encounter, the accused was injured after being shot in the leg, and was sent to the hospital for treatment.On June 2, the bike of Sankalp Singh, a resident of the Kotwali Jalaun area, was stolen, and in this connection an FIR was registered against an unknown thief at the Kotwali. During the investigation of the case, on Friday, while checking on the Gram Lona connecting road, the police team tried to stop a suspicious bike rider. During this, the accused opened fire on the police team with the intention of killing them.The police took retaliatory action in self-defence, in which the accused was shot in the leg. He was arrested in an injured condition. The accused has been identified as Chhotey Lal, a resident of Churkhi. During the search, a stolen Bajaj Platina bike, a country-made pistol, two cartridges, and two empty cartridge shells were recovered from his possession.On receiving the information, ASP Ishan Soni reached the spot and said that the bike recovered from the accused had been stolen recently. About 19 cases under various sections, including attempted murder, theft, the Arms Act, the Excise Act, and the Gangster Act, are registered against the accused. He had been under police surveillance for a long time, and a reward of 25,000 rupees had been declared on him.
