Times News NetworkKanpur: While preparations for extending passenger services on Kanpur Metro’s Corridor-1 (IIT–Naubasta) up to Naubasta are in their final stages, the civil structures of Metro stations on the approximately 4.50 km long elevated section of Corridor-2 (CSA–Barra-8) are rapidly taking shape. In a significant construction milestone, Kanpur Metro has successfully completed platform level slab casting at two stations on this section–Barra-7 and Vijay Nagar.Construction of technical rooms at the concourse level of both stations has also commenced. Additionally, work on the installation of Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) structures at these stations is scheduled to begin shortly.Technical rooms housing signalling, telecommunication, and electrical systems are integral to Metro operations. Following the completion of platform level civil works at Barra-7 and Vijay Nagar stations, construction of these critical technical rooms is now underway. Upon completion, installation of various operational systems and equipment essential for Metro services will also commence.It is noteworthy that the approximately 4.50 km elevated section of Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra-8) is being constructed in two segments–from CSA to the Corridor-2 Depot Ramp and from Double Puliya Ramp to Barra-8. This elevated stretch will comprise five stations–Agriculture University, Vijay Nagar Chauraha, Shastri Chowk, Barra-7 and Barra-8. In addition to the elevated section, Corridor-2 also includes an approximately 4.10 km underground section with three stations; Rawatpur, Kakadeo and Double Pulia.Sushil Kumar, managing director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), said, “Civil construction work on the elevated section of Kanpur Metro’s Corridor-2 (Agriculture University–Barra-8) is progressing at a rapid pace. Piling work across this section has been completed. Casting of precast structures such as Pier-Caps, Double T-girders, and U-girders at the casting yard has also been successfully completed. Track construction is advancing swiftly alongside civil works. The engineering team of Uttar Pradesh Metro is working with full commitment to deliver metro services to the citizens within the stipulated timelines.”
