Kanpur: Police detained a teenage maid and arrested her alleged boyfriend for the theft of jewellery and cash worth around Rs 60 lakh from a businessman’s residence in Swaroop Nagar locality. The jeweller who purchased the stolen items was also arrested.The police recovered stolen ornaments, gold biscuits, cash and mobile phones from the possession of the suspects.The maid, after committing the crime, went to Mount Abu with her alleged boyfriend. The police tracked his location with the help of his mobile phone as he was in constant touch with one of his friends.DCP Central Atul Kumar Srivastava said on Wednesday that Vikas Shukla, a businessman in Swaroop Nagar, operates a restaurant, a sweet shop and an ayurvedic medicine business.He employed a 17-year-old girl from Naubasta Hanspuram on June 16 to care for his pet dog on a monthly salary of Rs 14,000. The girl was employed through a health company based in Mandhana.The investigation revealed that after securing the job, the girl conducted a recce of the entire house. On June 17, she left the rear gate open in the name of cleaning. Once the businessman left for work, she stole the jewellery along with other valuables and fled with her alleged boyfriend, 21, a resident of Naubasta.The next day, when the girl did not turn up for work, Vikas grew suspicious. On inspecting the house, he discovered the theft and filed a report at Swaroop Nagar police station.The police initiated an investigation with the help of CCTV footage and mobile phone records. It was determined that the girl was in contact with the youth for the past year and was living with him in Kakadeo area for the last month.After the theft, the girl and her boyfriend rented a taxi to Lucknow and then went to Delhi, Ajmer Sharif and Mount Abu for sightseeing.The DCP said that during their stay in Mount Abu, the youth called one of his friends, which helped police get his location. The police team traced them and held both of them.During interrogation, the youth revealed that he sold a stolen gold bracelet to his acquaintance, jeweller Mahtab, 32, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony, Naubasta, for Rs 2.20 lakh. Police also arrested the accused jeweller.Police recovered a gold bangle, gold biscuits, a necklace, ear studs, a broken gold bangle, Rs 24,000 cash and a mobile phone from the accused.
