Kanpur: Congress and Samajwadi Party workers staged a demonstration in Kanpur on Tuesday night to protest the detention of Congress and SP leaders in New Delhi.Ahead of a proposed protest on Wednesday, police placed several party leaders under house arrest at their residences.Those placed under house arrest included Congress Mahanagar district president Pawan Gupta, senior Congress leader Vikas Awasthi, state general secretary JP Pal, Youth Congress leader Prabhakar Pandey, and rural district president Amit Pandey.SP leaders Arpit Yadav and Vinay Gupta were also placed under house arrest at their residences.Congress leader Pawan Gupta said the protest was against the lathi charge on students at Jantar Mantar and police action against Congress leaders outside the PM’s residence.He said the party would submit a memorandum to the district magistrate outlining its demands.
