Times News NetworkKanpur: Kanpur Nagar has displayed significant progress in solar energysector under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. So far,rooftop solar panels have been installed in 37,844 households in thedistrict, resulting in a total installed solar capacity of 132.09 MW.The district holds the second position in the state under the PM Surya GharYojana.District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh reviewed the progress of the‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana’ at the Naveen Auditorium, Sarsaiya Ghaton Monday. During the meeting, he reviewed aspects such as installation of solar panels, subsidy disbursement, and bank loans, and issued necessary instructions to the officials. During the review, it was reported that rooftop solar panels have beeninstalled in 37,844 houses in the district, and subsidies have beenreleased to 36,032 beneficiaries. This has resulted in the development of132.09 MW of installed solar capacity in the district.In the 2026-27 financial year, 10,249 new solar panels have been installedbetween April and June 21. The district has been assigned a target of installing 42,684 panelsfor the year 2026-27.While reviewing cases related to bank loans, the District Magistratedirected the banks to ensure the timely disposal of applications fromeligible beneficiaries and to achieve the expected progress in the loanapproval process by June 30.The District Magistrate directed DISCOM officials to complete theverification of installed rooftop solar panels in a time-bound manner. Healso emphasized ensuring that beneficiaries receive the scheme’s benefitson time and maintaining the momentum of installation work.He stated that the PM Surya Ghar Yojana was a significant initiative towardsclean energy, environmental conservation and energy self-reliance.
