A regular auto ride in Bengaluru turned into a moment that captured attention online. The passenger was travelling from Indiranagar to Koramangala and, at the end of the trip, asked the driver for the QR code to make a payment.
Usually, QR codes are printed on stickers inside the auto or shown on a phone screen. But this time, the driver simply lifted his wrist. On his smartwatch was the QR code, displayed clearly and ready to scan. The passenger scanned it, and the payment was completed instantly.
The post was shared on X by user Hemant. In his caption, he wrote: “Took an auto today from Indiranagar to Koramangala and asked the driver for the QR code to pay. Bro lifted his wrist; the QR code was on his smartwatch.”
What stood out in this moment was its simplicity. Instead of searching for a slip or unlocking a phone, the driver used his smartwatch to make the process faster. For him, it was routine. For the passenger, it was unexpected and memorable.
The story highlighted how digital payments have become part of everyday life in Bengaluru. From large businesses to gig workers, technology is being used in new ways to make transactions easier. A simple auto ride showed how wearable devices are now part of daily livelihoods.

“Autodrivers of Koramangala and Indiranagar earn as much as the IT people living there, imo, which is wild,” one user observed.
Another joked, “Gotta start driving autos with Claude background jobs for the day job hahahaha.”
A third added, “This is so cool I agree, I have a boat watch it gives me option too to save QRs and it’s really very handy, first time seeing an auto guy using it though… it’s a time saver.”
Someone else kept it simple, saying, “Nice to see that people are adapting to new technologies.”
