Be job creators, IIT Dharwad graduates told
Rajya Sabha MP and author Sudha Murty receives an honorary doctorate from Bhim Singh, National Science Chair under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation and honorary professor at IIT Delhi

Hubballi: India needs not just job seekers but job creators who can transform knowledge and technology into products, companies, solutions and wealth, Anusandhan National Research Foundation National Science Chair and IIT Delhi honorary professor Bhim Singh said on Saturday.Delivering the convocation address at the seventh convocation of IIT Dharwad at the Central Learning Theatre, Singh urged graduates to think differently and create opportunities rather than merely look for them. He said true satisfaction comes not from awards and recognitions but from seeing students evolve into researchers, entrepreneurs, professionals and responsible citizens.During the ceremony, Singh conferred an honorary doctorate on Padma Bhushan awardee Sudha Murty. He also presented the President of India Gold Medal to BTech Computer Science and Engineering student Amogh R and the Director’s Gold Medal to Siddharath Singh of the same programme.Institute silver medals for BTech were awarded to MD Inzamamul Haque, Nikhil Teja, R Eshwar, Mann Manoj Maru, Nishant S Mehta, Jai Sharma and Vedant Y Aswar. MTech silver medallists included Pasupuleti V, Vigneshwaran V, Somanaboina M and Siddhant Pani. The Om Prakash Goyal and Sevati Devi Goyal Award was presented to BTech CSE student Prakriti Tripathi. A total of 313 students received degrees at the convocation.IIT Dharwad director Prof Venkappayya Desai presented the institute report, highlighting progress in academics, research, innovation and infrastructure.Accepting the honorary doctorate, Sudha Murty thanked IIT Dharwad for conferring the honour in her native district. Calling teaching the “richest profession”, she urged graduates to remain courageous, embrace failures and never lose hope.Pan IIT Alumni India chairperson Prabhat Kumar, Tata Power Renewable Microgrid CEO Manoj Gupta, IIT Dharwad board of governors chairman Sharad Kumar Saraf and others were present.
