Arnav, Nabeel rally to enter quarterfinal in Nagpur badminton meet

Nagpur: Arnav Nimbalkar, Nabeel Ahmed and Priyanshu Dubey registered hard-fought victories to enter the quarterfinals in the Baidyanath Nagpur District badminton championship, which began at the Subhedar Hall on Monday.A total of 333 shuttlers will participate in the 21 age-category events in the three-day tournament.In the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals, Arnav got the better of Mourya Khandelwal 16-14, 7-15, 15-12 to set the last-eight clash with top seed Rohan Singh. In a lop-sided contest, Rohan prevailed over Shantanu Sapkal 15-9, 16-14.Both Nabeel and Priyanshu registered come-from-behind victories to square up in the quarterfinals. While Nabeel defeated Jeeva Pillai 6-15, 15-5, 15-8, Priyanshu came back stronger after losing the opening game 7-15 to prevail over Hridaan Singh 15-5, 15-7.Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Ashish Jaiswal, minister of state, Finance & Agriculture. On the occasion, NDBA president Kunda Vijaykar, secretary Mangesh Kashikar, Bhavana Aagrey, Gurdeep Singh Arora and Neha Gosavi were present.RESULTSMen’s Singles (PQF): Rohan Singh bt Shantanu Sapkal 15-9, 16-14; Arnav Nimbalkar bt Mourya Khandelwal 16-14, 7-15, 15-12; Nabeel Ahmed bt Jeeva Pillai 6-15, 15-5, 15-8; Priyanshu Dubey bt Hridaan Singh 7-15, 15-5, 15-7; Sanidhya Khandare bt Samir Sahoo 15-11, 15-9; Akshad Vitonde bt Aarav Agnihotri 15-9, 15-10.
