Ahmedabad: A 35-year-old personal trainer at a gym was duped of Rs 1.5 lakh after being lured with a promise of a 2% monthly return on his investment and an assurance that the amount would be repaid by June this year.Anandnagar Police on Thursday registered a case following a complaint filed by the trainer against a Naranpura resident.According to the complainant, he met the accused at an office near Paldi in June 2025 through a friend. The accused allegedly introduced himself as the owner of a firm and claimed that he dealt in buying and selling used vehicles as well as motor parts. He told the complainant that investors would earn profits and that the money could even be doubled in a short span.The complainant paid Rs 1,50,000 in cash in instalments after being taken into confidence. The accused allegedly collected the cash from his residence and later issued an affidavit on stamp paper. The document reportedly mentioned a 2% monthly return on the investment and stated that the principal amount of Rs 1,50,000 would be repaid on June 30, 2026. A postdated cheque was also allegedly given as security.The complainant alleged that the accused later stopped responding and, when contacted, said the monthly returns would not be paid and would instead be settled after six months. However, the complainant later found that no such company existed.
