Berhampur: Cyber police station in Berhampur has recovered around 94 stolen or missing smartphone sets in a special drive, and 61 of them were handed over to their rightful owners on Saturday. The work was done through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.The remaining 33 smartphones, which were recovered during the drive, will be handed over to their rightful owners soon through couriers or personal contact, said SP Berhampur Saravana Vivek M.The cyber police station here launched a special drive from last month after a large number of mobile phone-related complaints were received at the office of the SP Berhampur and cyber police station here early this year. “We have formed a dedicated recovery team led by Shankar Panda, inspector, cyber police station. The team used the advanced tracking techniques and coordinated closely with mobile service providers and other external agencies to trace and recover the devices,” he said.In 2026, the Berhampur cyber police recovered a total of 475 mobile phone sets that were stolen or missing in different places — most of them in silk city. To ensure the safety and security of citizens’ mobile devices, Cyber Crime & Economic Offences (CC & EO) Police Station, Berhampur, provides dedicated channels for reporting lost or missing mobile phones. The team at the cyber police station monitors complaints and works in close coordination with local police stations to carry out efficient recovery operations, he added.
