Bhubaneswar: Similipal Tiger Reserve authorities on Tuesday arrested three armed poachers for alleged attempt to kill wild animals inside the reserve’s protected area. The arrest was made based on the inputs of AI cameras installed in the reserve. Four country-made guns and an old deer antler were seized from them. “The poaching attempt has been foiled because of the enforcement and analysis of images of AI cameras,” said deputy director (south Similipal) Sumit Kar.The accused were identified as Mahadev Singh, 24, Sunaram Singh, 40 and Gora Singh, 44, all from Mayurbhanj district. The enforcement team was led by an assistant conservator of forests. “The poachers were produced before a court and they were remanded in judicial custody after their bail plea was rejected,” said the officer.He said further investigation is on to arrest another poacher linked to the case. A separate case will be booked against the offenders in the jurisdictional police station for violation under Arms Act.
