21 girls fall ill after breakfast at residential school, probe ordered

Raichur: Twenty-one girl students of a minority Morarji Desai Residential School in Sindhanur fell ill after consuming breakfast on Thursday, prompting authorities to order an inquiry into the incident.The students, who stay at the residential school on Udabal Road in Sindhanur town, were served vegetable pulao for breakfast. Soon after the meal, several students complained of dizziness, stomach pain and vomiting.School authorities shifted the students to the Mother and Child Hospital in Sindhanur for treatment.Allegations surfaced that worms were found in the pulao served to the students, raising concerns over the quality of food provided at the hostel. Officials visited the school after learning about the incident and collected food samples for testing.Authorities have also ordered an inquiry following allegations of negligence by hostel staff.However, district health and family welfare officer Dr Nandita said only six to seven students initially experienced vomiting, while other students reported similar symptoms after witnessing the incident. She said all 21 students admitted to hospital had recovered and were discharged.“The reason behind the vomiting is being examined,” she said.The incident has sparked concern among parents, who have demanded stricter monitoring of food quality and safety standards in residential schools.
